Winner, the 2014 Oregon Christian Writers Cascade Contest They had the perfect marriage. At least she thought they did. Dory-Ann and Willie Joe’s marriage is the envy of many in their small Arkansas hometown until the day before their fortieth anniversary celebration when Willie Joe leaves, giving Dory-Ann no excuses, no chance to convince him otherwise. What is she to do? She can’t admit that her mother’s prediction that Willie Joe would leave her has suddenly come true. Though it’s the hardest thing he’s ever done, Willie Joe knows he is right in leaving. He’s seen the signs; he knows the memory lapses will only worsen; he can’t burden the love of his life with his future. Award-winning author Pamela Trawick brings readers an unforgettable story of a marriage tested by pride and fear as both Dory-Ann and Willie Joe stumble between the stones of life’s journey.

Walking Between the Stones Pamela Trawick 9781540308016 Books

This is one of the best books I have read this year. I read 1 or 2 pages and knew I couldn't stop until I finished it. The author writes in a way that keeps a person wanting to know more and more. Willie Joe's problems and how he thought he should handle them was compelling. Dory-Ann's part of the story was truly believable as we all have or would react the same ways if we were in her place. Pamela Trawick is a gifted writer.

Walking Between the Stones Pamela Trawick 9781540308016 Books Reviews

Pamela Trawick's book is a realistic story of trials wrapped in love and faith. The believable characters compelled me to vicariously follow them on their journey. This story was very encouraging!
The author creates characters whom you care about from the very beginning. They are very real and you find yourself rooting for all of them. It is one of the stories that you don't want to see end.
I enjoyed this touching novel for many of the same reasons I enjoyed Nobody's Fool. Trawick draws real characters with humor and love; from the first page, I was invested in them and their story. This is a curl-up-and-read-it and laugh and cry kind of book, and the scenes are set with such care that it's almost like watching a movie; even the pets are distinct, interesting characters. It feels like light reading, but there's a sneaking substance and depth. Would make a great gift for the Fried Green Tomatoes kind of reader.
Pamela Trawick has completed a masterful portrayal of human fear and confusion redeemed by kindness, hope, and the commitment of community. I'm delighted to read her first book and meet her endearing characters who could be people I know and live with.
I enjoyed Walking Between the Stones very much. The characters were multi-dimensional, the plot steady, and the story itself reflected the the anguish couples experience when illness brings unexpected challenges to their relationship. Pamela Tradwick communicates the realities of a walk of faith when a person's life is interrupted by the unexpected. Pamela TrawickI highly recommend this book.
The story is beautifully written, with apt, unselfconscious imagery. Ms. Trawick does not give us all the information at once and I was tantalized by the question why Willie Joe is so reluctant to see a doctor; and why is it so hard for Dory-Ann to tell the truth about where Willie Joe was. But the story is not just about Willie Joe and Dory-Ann. It is full of wonderful characters and surprise events, and kept me turning the pages until the satisfactory ending.

The author's letter at the end adds a poignant twist. Thank you, Ms. Trawick for sharing with us. Our prayers are with you.
My heart hurt for Dory Ann as she sorted out her life after her husband leaves. The emotions threaded through the book give life to the characters and a realistic view of everyday life when people are faced with the unexpected. The characters wear their faith in God as an intrinsic part of their lives rather than simply turning to the Almighty when a desperate need arose. I appreciated that. There's nothing preachy about this book, just true, honest emotion that gives the reader a deep sense of hope.
