An affectionate, first-hand account of childhood in the almost forgotten sugar plantation days of old Hawaii, told with a reverence for the Japanese heritage that gave it birth and illustrated with archival and personal, never-before-seen photos that bring it richly to life.

Interesting, but dates are not given on photos and that makes it hard to follow who is being featured. An interesting overview, however.

I enjoyed reading about the sugar plantation my grandparents worked and lived on.
A beautiful pictorial and personal account of old Hawaii of a local Japanese man's growing up as a child in a place near Hilo once called O'Ola. Many never before seen pictures of old Hawaii. The many black and white old photos sets a stage for his many accounts of old Hawaii and some during WWII of US Japanese Internment.
Mr. Imai has grasp the history of the place he grew up.
Interesting, but dates are not given on photos and that makes it hard to follow who is being featured. An interesting overview, however.
